Dr. Altizer is a Fellow in the American College of Phlebology (ACP) one of only 30 in the US. This honor was given to him in recognition for his dedication and efforts on behalf on the College in teaching doctors from all over the country about vein disease and its treatment. He has been with the Vein Center in Charlotte, NC since 2001.
Dr. Altizer graduated from Davidson College with a B.S. degree in Pre-Medicine in 1981. From there he attended medical school in Richmond, Virginia, graduating from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 1985. After completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in Augusta, Georgia, he worked for the next 11 years as a board-certified Internist. For part of that time, he served as a distinguished medical officer in the US Navy and received three decorations while serving in the first Gulf War. Dr. Altizer took up Phlebology (the specialty dealing with vein disease) full time in 1999. Dr. Altizer has had extensive training and experience with cosmetic sclerotherapy, ultrasound-guided medical sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and the latest endovenous catheter techniques for treating varicose vein disease. He has performed over 1200 endovenous catheter procedures for varicose veins.
