Dr. Michael Vasquez

MichaelVasquezDr. Michael Vasquez is nationally and internationally recognized for his expertise, teaching and research in the treatment of venous insufficiency.

He was the first surgeon in Western New York to perform endovenous radiofrequency saphenous ablation. He received the Business First Health Care Heroes Award for “Innovation in Health Care” in April 2004 for this advance. To date he has performed nearly 3000 of these procedures. Because of his experience he was asked to be the first in New York State to use the new Closure Fast catheter prior to its general release. He has taught many physicians and fellows locally and nationally his techniques.

Dr. Vasquez is most known for his research on the utilization of the Venous Clinical Severity Score to follow clinical outcomes in venous treatments. He is published in the May 2007 issue of the Journal of Vascular Surgery (JVS 2007;45:1008-15), the Spring 2007 issue of the AVForum, the December 2008 issue of Phlebology (Phleb 2008; 23:259-75).

He has delivered major presentations throughout the world on his work. He has been interviewed multiple times by the local television and written media. He was recently featured in an article published by the State University New York at Buffalo School of Medicine publication the Buffalo Physician.

Dr. Vasquez serves on multiple national committees and organizations dedicated to the advancement in knowledge and treatment of venous disease. These include the Venous Disease Coalition, the American Venous Forum Outcomes Committee, the American College of Phlebology, the Eastern Vascular Society and the International Society of Endovascular Specialists. He is currently the Secretary for the Western New York Vascular Society.
