Unsightly spider veins…many people suffer from them. Whether it’s through pregnancy, weight gain, a career that keeps us on our feet all day, or hereditary, these are lifestyle issues which we can’t change. But that doesn’t mean we have to throw up our hands in defeat. There are steps we can take to halt the progression of spider veins.

Spider veins are caused by the pooling of blood in veins. Wearing compression socks or stockings provides the added support veins need to improve circulation. Regular use of compression products can also potentially prevent surgery down the road.

Here is a link to Ames Walker’s spring sale. Stock up now, so you’ll never have to go without and can start putting a stop to those spider veins. http://www.ameswalker.com/prday20sade.html

Running across America to fulfill your own dreams and goals is a great accomplishment. Doing this with the hope of raising $1 million for orphan charities takes this remarkable feat to a new and astounding level, and Smith-Batchen is doing just that. Stories like these really remind me of how one person can effect change.

Excitement is growing for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which starts in less than a month. Whether you are a soccer fan or not, you have to appreciate how physically fit these players are. But it isn’t just about the intensive training, both physical and mental. Recovery and regeneration strategies need to be considered and incorporated. Without it, there will be overtraining and greater tissue fatigue which could eventually lead to injury.

Here is an article from the World of Soccer, which suggests what factors affect recovery and recommendations to avoid burnout. Tips all of us should think about.

I came across some interesting statistics lately that I found hard to believe. A study in Britain showed that nearly half of British women ‘hate their legs,’ and 1 in 6 will not show their legs to their partners: seems pretty extreme. Researchers also found 17 percent of women think their legs have kept them back in life and 63 percent said they would be feel more confident if they were happier with their legs.

Maybe across the pond consumers are not as informed about all the many treatments and preventive measures available today, from surgery to compression hosiery. Some are very simple steps that can improve your appearance and ultimately your confidence.

If you don’t like your legs, or know someone who feels that way, here’s an article from The Daily News Tribune in Massachusetts with a little advice:

Our feet are the foundation to our bodies. So it makes good sense then that our overall physical and mental wellness, a term heard more and more lately, needs to start there.

The foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles. And boy do they take a beating. The average person walks about 10,000 steps a day. During a lifetime it is thought that a person has walked enough steps top have traveled around the planet more than 4 times.

Your feet also mirror your general health. Conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, nerve and circulatory disorders can show their initial symptoms in the feet – so foot ailments can be your first sign of more serious medical problems.

Take an extra minute today and consider your feet. Make sure you are wearing the proper shoes for your specific needs, are using orthotics if necessary and putting comfort once in a while ahead of fashion. Your feet will thank you for it.

Millions of Americans suffer from diabetes and need extra protection for their at-risk feet and legs. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, African Americans are twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes as non-Hispanic whites. In addition, they are more likely to suffer complications from diabetes, such as lower extremity amputations.

For those in more advanced stages of the disease, diabetes can cause blood and veins to weaken, lose integrity and lose blood flow velocity, making wearing graduated compression diabetic hosiery an even more important and urgent treatment.

Share this information with your loved ones, to help them stay healthy and ensure they are taking all the necessary steps to prevent complications.
